How much does it cost to finish a basement?
Most often it comes down to the condition you’re finishing. An unfinished basement with dry, sound walls will be much cheaper to finish than a basement with existing water damage or an egress window. We’ll be able to meet with you and determine a realistic estimate for the space within 24 hours, not a ballpark figure.
How long does a basement remodel take?
An average basement remodel takes 4-8 weeks, depending on the size and if you’re looking to install plumbing fixtures or an egress window.
Will my basement flood or stay damp after it's finished?
Not if we do our jobs! Before we begin framing we’ll inspect for any existing dampness or water intrusion, and install proper waterproofing and drainage to ensure your basement stays as dry as the upstairs. Basements that flood or stay damp after being finished are a result of contractors skipping that step to save money, which we will absolutely not do.
Do I need a permit to finish a basement?
This depends on several factors, including where you live or if you’re installing bedrooms in the basement. As your contractor, we’ll pull the permits to finish your basement, and handle all of the inspections as we go along.
Can you add a bedroom in my basement?
You can with the proper egress window, which we’ll go over with you. Egress windows are required for all bedrooms in basements by code, and we’ll make sure to add one if you’d like to add a bedroom in your basement.
What is an egress window, and do I need one?
An egress window is a code-compliant, large window used for emergency escape from a basement. They are required for all bedrooms constructed within a basement. If you’re looking to finish a bedroom within your basement, we’ll install an egress window for you as part of the project.
My basement has low ceilings. Is that a problem?
Many older homes have low ceilings, and while they certainly aren’t ideal, we do have options to make the best use of the space you have. We’ll go over options for lighting and ductwork with you and be completely honest about what we can and can’t accommodate given your ceiling height.
Do you handle basements with existing water damage or mold?
Yes, but we’ll need to take care of some steps before we can begin framing the walls. You’ll be updated on what steps we take and why before any work begins, so you know exactly what we’re doing and why we’re doing it.
Can you add a bathroom or wet bar in the basement?
Yes, we can and often times do. Bathrooms and wet bars are common additions in a basement remodeling project, and we’ll set aside space in the planning phase for whichever you’d like to add. Adding a bathroom or wet bar to your basement remodeling project often times has the biggest impact on the layout and cost of the project, so we’ll make sure to go over your options with you.
What if my basement floods after the remodel is done?
Every basement remodeling project we complete comes with a 1-year workmanship warranty, because we know things can and do happen after your basement is finished. If something we installed fails, we’ll come out and make it right.
Do you handle basements with older or unusual foundations?
Yes, we do. Older homes often have foundations that weren’t meant for finishing, and we’ll be sure to address those issues and work with you to maximize the space you have.
